Many individuals associate Mariemaia with infinite greed and reckless cruelty; however, these people fail to grasp the bewilderment that had accompanied her tragic childhood. By examining the many ill fated events of her life, anyone can sympathize with her emotional vulnerability, which eventually led to inevitable mayhem.
After her father, Treize Khushrenada, became wounded in battle, he was transported to a hospital where Leia Barton nursed him back to health. Later, Leia gave birth to a beautiful baby girl, who would one day challenge the world. Unfortunately, Treize was no longer at hand to act as a father figure for his daughter. Considering his chivalrous morals, I doubt that Treize would abandon his child without a valid reason for doing so. Perhaps he was not aware of her existence or maybe he did not want to involve his child in his hostile, political world. Whether this is true or not, Mariemaia was denied an attentive father. In addition, Mariemaia's mother passed away when her daughter was only two years of age.
It is assumed that her grandfather, Dekim Barton, took this opportunity to take her under his wing. Abandoned and dazed, Mariemaia must have depended on her grandfather for guidance and support. Dekim used this power to manipulate her and mold her into the perfect facade for his unorthodox scheme. Under her grandfather's custody, Mariemaia was taught fallacious goals that her father supposedly strove towards. Dekim convinced her that the only means of acquiring these goals was to resurrect Operation Meteor, the original plan to force a colony to collide with the earth. By doing this, Mariemaia would earn the victory that her father was unable to achieve.
Mariemaia began her campaign by abduction Vice Foreign Minister, Relena Darlian. With Relena Darlian's political influence, Mariemaia was able to gain the majority of the public's support. From the protection of an underground fortress, Mariemaia surveyed the surrounding war and supervised her captive's every move. Although she was aware of the destruction and turmoil around her, she was incapable of discovering the iniquities of her actions. All of her morals were either gathered through her grandfather's brainwashing techniques or fictitious tales of her father's aspirations. She was hardly a villain; she was merely a victim of Dekim's malicious conspiracy.
All of Mariemaia's triumph subsided with the involvement of gundam pilot, Heero Yuy. Despite the advanced security the underground fortress provided, Heero's thingamajig(1) cannon was able to greatly damage the defense system that secured the fortress. Shocked, Mariemaia was introduced to the fears of war for the first time. Sensing an opportunity to debase Mariemaia's righteous attitude, Lady Une prepared to awaken the child's dormant consciousness with a slap across her face; however, Relena struck the child before Lady Une had a chance to act. Feelings of confusion and bewilderment bubbled up within Mariemaia as she was confronted with the ethics that her childhood provided her with and the new moral values that were causing her to question her recent actions. Dekim, furious due to his failed efforts, attempted to avenge his wounded honor by shooting the earth's most "respected"(2) delegate, Relena Darlian. Realizing her errors, Mariemaia hurled herself in front of the approaching bullet, thus saving Relena's life. Without any signs of sympathy or regret, Dekim announced that Mariemaia, his own granddaughter, was replaceable. An anonymous soldier(3) shot Dekim and thus ended the war.
Aware of the pain and suffering Mariemaia must have encountered, Lady Une cared for the young aristocrat out of respect for the late Treize Khushrenada. Although she was restrained to a wheelchair due to her injury, she was now capable of leading a scrupulous, content existence.

Wow! You actually found out that those decrepit numbers in the text are my attempts at creating footnotes! I haven't been able to figure out how to put proper footnotes in using my web program, so they will probably be like this forever. Sorry!
1) I have no idea what that stupid gun-thing is called. I'm sure you know what I am talking about, though. Is it called a beam cannon? I have combed through website after website searching for the name, but I haven't been successful. If no one tells me in a week, I am changing it to beam cannon.
2) I put quotation marks around respected only because I have not recovered from her total pacifism view point, nor have I forgiven the citizens for following her. Also, stalking the person who promises to kill you doesn't seem very respectable, let alone sane. Still, I respect her temperament in Endless Waltz. I suppose I can accuse her young age and the tremendous pressure that was bestowed to her for her erratic behavior. Hmm..I could probably write an essay on this. Sorry for making this so long.
3) Actually, he does have a name--I have just forgotten it. I think it is Alex in the subbed version or something like that.
